Statement from Karen Vecchio, MP Elect: Inflation Rate Highest Since 2003

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
From the Constituency Office of Karen Vecchio, Member of Parliament Elect

Federal government’s economic policies result inflation rate highest since 2003

October 20, 2021

St. Thomas, ON – Karen Vecchio, Member of Parliament Elect for Elgin-Middlesex-London,
issued the following statement on a Statistics Canada report that warns inflation is at its highest
point since February 2003:

“Canada’s inflation rate is at its highest point since 2003, with the cost of living up 4.4 per cent compared to a year ago. Today’s numbers show the damage that the Liberal government has inflicted on our economy with risky deficits and a trillion-dollar debt that has been saddled on Canadians.

“The Prime Minister has had the opportunity to recall Parliament and send a strong signal to Canadians that he is ready to get serious about the economic challenges facing our country. Unfortunately, he has failed to do so and instead, he has avoided accountability by delaying the
return of Parliament until late November.

“This government’s failed policies have made it increasingly difficult for businesses to stay afloat, as shipping costs, supply chains, and operating budgets become harder to secure.

“Within Elgin-Middlesex-London, I have heard from numerous business owners who are feeling the pressure of surviving in today’s economy. Families are constantly seeing increasing prices of housing, gas, groceries, and everyday essentials.

“Together with my Conservative colleagues, I am ready to get back to work and tackle the economic challenges that Canadians elected Parliament to handle.”
