Statement on the Islamophobic Attack in London
June 7, 2021
OTTAWA, ON – In response to new information from City of London Police regarding the crash on Hyde Park Road, Karen Vecchio, Member of Parliament for Elgin-Middlesex-London, issued the following statement:
“Today, we learned that the deadly crash that killed 4 innocent people in London, Ontario on Hyde Park Road was a premeditated attack, motivated by racism and Islamophobia.
My heart breaks for the family that was killed and for everyone connected with them. I know that Londoners share this grief and are struggling to understand how anyone could commit such a devastating and evil act. The fact that these murders were fueled by Islamophobic bigotry makes it even truly unfathomable.
I know the London Police have laid charges in this case and have an ongoing investigation.
Londoners and all Canadians stand against racism, Islamophobia and any other form of bigotry or hatred.
My prayers are with the family, the recovering child who remains in the hospital and everyone impacted by this terrible attack.”
