Forcing Closure of Debate on Cannabis Legislation

June 2, 2017

June 2, 2017 (Ottawa, ON) – Karen Vecchio, Member of Parliament for Elgin-Middlesex-London, and Official Opposition Critic for Families, Children and Social Development, is disappointed that the government has tabled a closure motion in the House of Commons effectively ending further discussion and debate on Bill C-45, An Act respecting cannabis and to amend the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

This legislation was tabled on April 13th and the government only granted the opposition to ability debate and discuss this legislation on behalf of their constituents for two days.

“Forcing closure on such an important piece of legislation shows a complete disrespect for the long term implications of this bill,” said Vecchio. “I was proud to stand in the House of Commons on behalf of many concerned families and their children to highlight the importance of further debate on this legislation.”
