Bill C-45, the Cannabis Act

September 5, 2018

With the passage of C-45 at the end of the Spring Session of Parliament, cannabis will officially become legal on October 17, 2018 for adults who are over the age of 18. It is important for anyone who is intending to possess or to use cannabis to know and follow all possession and distribution limits. While I support the measures that protect Canadians from impaired driving, I am concerned that the police do not currently have the resources required to manage the increased threat of impaired driving associated with the legalization of marijuana. It is essential that Canadians understand the risks and penalties of impaired driving, before choosing to use cannabis.
